5 Safety Tips to Popping Blackheads

If you want to get rid of blackheads, then the last thing you want to do is to pop them. Experts have continually warned us about the negative effects of popping blackheads on our skin. But why is it that no matter how much we try, we still end up popping them? So if you really can’t help yourself from doing it, you have to make sure are doing it the right way.

Here are five safety tips that you should consider before popping blackheads:

1. Make sure you use clean extractors

As much as possible, avoid squeezing your blackheads with your bare hands. Instead, use clean extractors to do the job. There are different kinds of extractors sold in the market. Use the one that you are comfortable working with. Meanwhile, sterilize your extractors to keep them away from any kind of bacteria. All you have to do is to place the extractor in boiling water for about 15 minutes.

2. Work with clean hands

It is very important that you work with clean hands to avoid the spread of microorganisms. Wash your hands prior to every procedure from sterilizing the extractors to squeezing the blackheads out from your skin. When you touch or pop a pimple, make sure your hands are clean. You can use any hand soap as long as it is gentle on your skin. Pay attention to cleaning the spaces between your fingers, as well as under your fingernails.

3. Steam your face

Steaming your face makes your skin softer. It also “opens” your pores, which makes it easier to remove the blackheads. While washing your face, use warm water instead of cold water. Aside from that, you can also place steamed towel over your face or position your face over a pot of hot water. The steam from the water will open your pores and soften any build-up that clogs your pores.

4. Use gentle pressure to pop the blackheads

When using extractors to get rid of blackheads, make sure you apply it with gentle pressure. Keep in mind to never press too hard to avoid skin damage or scarring. Also, you do not have to sweep the extractor over the skin. The pressure applied is enough to eradicate the blackheads. In addition, never press for too long! It can cause bruising.

5. Use anti-septic cream after the extraction

Applying anti-septic cream after the extraction will prevent any infection from occurring. Apply the cream over the extracted areas. This cream will also provide a soothing sensation. You can get these creams from any drugstore. However, you will also have to check with your doctor for prescription if you have rather sensitive skin.
