Get Rid of Pimples: How to Pop a Pimple

IF there is one consistent piece of advice you are probably sick of getting when it comes to acne treatment, it is probably this: don’t pop your pimples. Exclamation point.

It helps to remember that this is advice given with the best intentions in mind. After all, popping a pimple can make the eruption even worse. And even worse than that, it can leave a scar.

But, let’s be real, if overnight your face became newly decorated with a fiery red mound crowned by a milky white head, are you really going to go out and show it off for all the world to see? Apart from the most disciplined – or perhaps indifferent – of you, the answer is not just no, but hell no.

The thing is – and no one tells you this because they want to discourage you from doing it in the first place – that bursting that blemish can actually speed up its departure.

The Right Pimples to Pop

There is a right way to pop pimples, but as important, is knowing the right pimples to pop. If the tempting zit in question is one of those deep ones – a big, red, inflamed bump that is painful to the touch – leave it alone!

The right acne eruption to go after is one that is completely at the surface, on top of your skin rather than down deep, and has come to a head with that unappealing white center.

How to Pop a Pimple

Before you go at, make sure you have opened up your pores, so to speak, by taking a hot shower, or steaming your face, or applying hot compress to the area. Next gather your equipment. You will need: a needle, matches or lighter, cotton ball, rubbing alcohol, facial tissues, acne spot treatment, soap and water.

  • First, wash your hands.
  • Next, disinfect the sewing needle by heating the tip with the flame from a lit match or a lighter, then wait a moment for it to cool and wipe it down using a cotton ball soaked with rubbing alcohol.
  • With another cotton ball, dab the zit with alcohol, then take the needle and carefully pierce through the very, very top of the pimple from the side and pulling up slightly. If you were to approach it straight on, you risk going too deep and hurting yourself.
  • Holding the tissues around your index fingers, attack the pimple from either side of it, pushing down firmly but gently. It is at this point where you may need to muster every ounce of discipline you can find. That is because if it does not pop, you have to walk away and leave it alone. It is not ready. You absolutely do not want to force it to burst. However, if it did erupt, continue to apply a bit of pressure, getting rid of the pimple’s white core, but stopping if you see blood or clear fluid.
  • Wipe the blemish clean with another cotton ball and alcohol, applying light pressure to the zit for a moment.
  • Finish with a dab of an acne spot treatment.

And that is all there is to it! Now you know how to pop a pimple!
